Hi all

Please note the following advice

This is important as decisions will need to be made in all churches.

I am not going to make a fuss, but I would appreciate knowing who is vaccinated and who is not

I know this is intrusive, but this will be treated as confidential and I will not share this with any one else

Could you email me with your status please

Thanks

Andrew

> Dear All,
>
> With South Australia reaching 90% of the overall population being fully vaccinated on 28 December, the regulations relating to singing have changed.
>
> The following was prepared by Bill Condie, the Media Advisor for the Diocese of Adelaide:
>
> Information Update – new COVID Restrictions Effective 28 December 90% of South Australians fully vaccinated (aged 12 and above):
>
> The SA Government has issued a new COVID-Ready plan which will come into effect on 28 December 2021. The new guidelines affect singing and density.
>
> This does not affect Christmas services which continue under the current guidelines.
>
> From 28 December 2021 singing will only be allowed indoors if all attendees are Fully Vaccinated.
>
> So Parishes will need to make a choice:
>
> If they wish to sing they will need to check everybody’s vaccination status and only allow the fully vaccinated in. They will be restricted to 3 people per 4 square metres if allowing singing. They may go to 100% capacity if all vaxxed, all seated and no singing.
> Or
> If they wish to let anyone in and not check vaccination status they will not be allowed to sing and will be restricted to 3 people per 4 square metres even if all are seated.
> We understand that no singing means no singing.
>
> In all cases masks must be worn indoors.
>
> Parishes may choose to either have services for all comers which means no singing, or have separate services for the fully vaccinated and at different times services for anyone.
>
> Either way, Parishes need to decide and communicate with their communities what their plans are so that confusion and or potential unpleasantness might be avoided.
>
> The role of the COVID Marshall will become even more important:
> If there is even only one Not Fully Vaccinated Person aged 12 and above present at an indoor event/worship, then the entire church will need to comply as a setting with Not Fully Vaccinated Persons. That is, no singing at all and density of 3 people per 4m2
> If the COVID Marshall is unable to verify someone’s vaccination status, it would be advisable to assume that they are not vaccinated.
> There is no allowance for medical exemptions. If there is a person in attendance with a medical exemption, the event must be treated as a Not Fully Vaccinated event.
> The Priest in charge must confirm with the COVID Marshall before the service commences:
> If the Worship COVID Marshalls can confirm that the worship community present indoors is Fully Vaccinated, then singing in masks is allowed.
> Even if the service was planned to be with singing, if it turns out that there is a Not Fully Vaccinated Person present, there must be no singing.
> Compliance for QR and Vaccine Certificates:
> Each parish is required to develop a policy about how they deal with Vaccine Certificate recording.
> If it is Vax Cert is linked to QR Code, the COVID Marshall can then note it, allowing the community to know if they are able to sing in masks or treat the indoor worship as a Not Fully Vaccinated Person situation.
> Regular worshippers could offer their Vax Cert to be recorded/noted for the local worship centre’s records. This must be voluntary.
>
> We are advised that spot checks by Compliance officers will continue across the State and Police will continue spot checks regarding compliance.
>
> I acknowledge that many will find these new rules perplexing and contrary to community expectations regarding easing of restrictions at 90% fully vaccinated, however the arrangements have been confirmed directly by SA Health.
>
> As always restrictions are kept under constant review by the SA Government as the situation evolves and I encourage you to keep an eye on the SA Health COVID website and media coverage of Government announcements.
